Marvel's Wonder Man Preview Reveals Marvel's Most Self-Referential TV Show Ever

The Marvel studio is aware that audiences might be feeling some superhero exhaustion, so they've decided to incorporate that very concept into their upcoming superhero series.

That's right, the first preview for Wonder Man has arrived, and it pledges a self-referential angle on the MCU.

The trailer, which premiered on October 10th, also subtly moved the Wonder Man release date later from its original end of 2025 window into January 2026.

Why one more superhero movie? Everyone is weary of superhero content. Why go see them in the theater? Wonder Man resonated with me on a profound level. There is an opportunity to shock audiences. To reinvent the whole genre of storytelling.

The reporter responds: "Have you considered about casting?"

The trailer then transitions to lead actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who's viewing the conversation on his phone, and the trailer ends.

What We Know Regarding Wonder Man

We were previously aware that Wonder Man would be a meta take on the MCU. The show features Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as the character Simon Williams, a film star who becomes a superhero (the hero Wonder Man).

The supporting cast includes Ben Kingsley reprising his role as Iron Man 3's Trevor Slattery, Demetrius Grosse as Eric Williams (also known as Grim Reaper), Ed Harris as Simon's agent Neal Saroyan, and Arian Moayed returning as DODC officer P. Cleary.

The Studio's Meta-Humor Approach

We don't know much else about the plot of Wonder Man, but it's clear that the studio plans to poke some fun at itself.

In the wake of Deadpool & Wolverine, it seems like the studio is fully committed on meta-humor. Will that work without the celebrity appeal of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman? We'll have to wait and see.
